The American Birkebeiner, from Cable to Hayward, Wisc., is the largest cross-country ski race in North America and part of the Worldloppet circuit of 15 international ski marathons held in Japan, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, France, Estonia, Germany, Austria, Finland, Italy, Canada, Australia, Czech Republic, Poland and the United States.

The Hannes Schneider Meister Cup is unlike any ski race in history. It combines the best of skiing today with the warm nostalgia of yesterday. It honors the founding father of ski instruction, Austrian Hannes Schneider, who brought his world-renowned skills to North Conway and Mt. Cranmore in 1939. Schneider introduced skiing fun and excitement to millions around the globe. Registration fee: five-person teams, $375; individuals, $75. Entry deadline 11:59 p.m. March 4.
Great Glen Trails in Pinkham Notch, N.H., is hosting Ski to the Clouds Sunday, March 7. The race is sponsored by Maxiglide, with $1,400 in cash prizes up for grabs. The course includes 4k of racing on the trail system at Great Glen Trails before launching on a 6k climb up the Mt. Washington Auto Road over 2,200 vertical feet, making the race North America's toughest 10k.

The New England Ski Museum's Bretton Woods Nordic Marathon at Omni Mount Washington Resort presented by CNL Lifestyles Properties is a major fundraiser for the non-profit Ski Museum. The event offers mass-start classic style races of 50k and 25k and free BKL 3k. First race starts at 8:30 a.m. Registration is $50 by Feb 8, $60 by Feb. 22, and $70 by March 10, 2010. Lmited to 300 skiers.

The 28th annual US Open Snowboarding Championships, final stop of the Burton Global Open Series, where the top male and female in the series will be awarded $100,000 each, and final stop on the men's TTR World Snowboard Tour and the top male will be awarded the TTR world title.
